History

The CGTS was founded in 1986 by the Study centres Düsseldorf, Freiburg, Ulm and Tübingen to evaluate so far "established" therapy protocols for the treatment of primary glomerulonephritis in a randomised and controlled study for their effectiveness and possible adverse effects. Tübingen was chosen as the coordinating centre. Different subtypes of primary glomerulonephritis were assigned to specific study centres which take the responsibility for correct data acquisition and statistical management of clinical and laboratory data. The development of the study protocol and the first trials with electronic data management confer to the efforts of Miss. Dr. Weber in collaboration with Mrs. Dr. M. Estler.

In 1990 the study protocol was completely revised and all data were finally processed by a electronic data management system. In 1993 the universities of Jena and Regensburg joined the Study Group. At the same time, the Study Group also decided to register secondary forms of glomerulonephritis and to standardize their therapy as well. At the last meeting of the members of the Study Group in May 1995, it was decided to test experimental therapies beside the not yet finished studies about conventional therapy . In addition, the Study Group got the state of an associated member of the Cochrane-Collaboration , a world-wide association of doctors and scientists collecting and analysing data of controlled, randomized studies.
